Wine Tasting Notes for 5-22

The Menu…

2005 Paul Cluver Gewurztraminer

A timely wine for the season; this Gewurtz has concentration and depth you can smell with the first whiff of litchi flavors, honeysuckle and rose petals off the bouquet. There’s generous weight and complexity for this $15 white that’s at home with Asian and spicy dishes.

2007 Phillipe Grange Rose (of Grenache and Syrah)

Mentally I was ready to move on from Rose shopping for the store, but this little guy has fire at $12. Mineral driven with a strawberry back drop and a serious spicy note through the mid palate for those who need drama; and then there was the finish that just kept on…

2005 Castell del Remei Gotim Bru

A Westpark staple… this blend from just west of Barcelona, Spain is smooth and well balanced from its dark cherry coloring through the long and satisfying if slightly peppered finish $14. I’m sad to say this blend will see a mid-vintage price increase (the most bitter increase of all!) of a dollar or two… but I appreciate there are few wines that deserve praise more.
